Reach’s application involves an aggressive duty cycle with reversing torque which is common in gas compression systems. Reach needed a solution that would continue to operate in this aggressive environment and not require shutdowns or operational interruptions for maintenance. Prior to working with PSC, Reach used an elastomer coupling design; however, the coupling life was not meeting the requirements of the operation.
Reach evaluated several coupling suppliers prior to selecting PSC Couplings. Reach decided PSC was the best fit to provide the needed technical expertise as well as quick response times and a short lead-time.
After reviewing the application details, PSC specified a Series 57-1708 coupling. The Series 57 couplings offer industry leading torque density and are designed to handle aggressive duty cycles including applications with reversing toque. The Series 57 coupling also allows Reach to operate in a small space with a short distance between shaft ends of 1.3 inches. Custom hubs and flanges were incorporated into the design allowing the ability to operate in the desired space.
